Insider Notes from Alabama football’s first scrimmage of fall camp

Alabama football hosted its first scrimmage of fall camp on Thursday inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Touchdown Alabama was able to gather some insight on the scrimmage from multiple sources in attendance. Here are takeaways from their thoughts:
– Austin Mack ran the first series as the starting quarterback with the ones. The offense started slow, but Mack did show some leadership and told his teammates to pick it up. They eventually got rolling, according to a source.
– One viewer said Keelon Russell brings a different type of ‘spark’ because of what he can do when the play breaks down; he can make things happen. However, they see Alabama playing both quarterbacks early through the first few games.
– Alabama football’s defense got rave reviews. Touchdown Alabama was told the Tide’s defensive line looked like ‘something serious’ at times. They went on to say that they showed flashes of the ‘Alabama of old’ upfront.
– Luke Metz was highlighted by Kalen DeBoer after the scrimmage, and one viewer loved what he saw from the inside linebacker. They called Metz a ‘savvy’ linebacker, who was calling out where the play was going before it happened. They also said once he was coming straight downhill with violent intentions.
